NotD - Texture Is The New Colour

It's frankening time again! I recently mixed this up randomly, adding clear, black, grey and a bit of purple nail polish to an almost empty bottle of Eyeko Vamp Polish. Tonight I applied this for the first time and was at a loss as to what to do with this base colour. I loved Niki's suggestion of a starry or constellation theme, but found that this would work better on a different base. Instead I decided to do a monochromatic matte and shiny manicure.

This is what I used for this manicure:

  • Sally Hansen Miracle Cure
  • Seche Base
  • Curfew, my blackened blue frankenpolish
  • Seche Vite
  • Essie matte about you
  • Sally Hansen Diamond Shine

My nails are very uneven right now (due to multiple patches), so I used one coat of Miracle Cure followed by two of Seche Base to protect and even my nails. Then I applied two coats of my franken and one of Seche Vite.
Curfew turned out pretty well. In two coats it looks pretty much like any other blackened blue, but it's less saturated than any of the similar polishes I know and a bit inky. I'd describe it as a creme, but there is a barely noticeable amount of blue shimmer. Curfew is fairly viscous and fully opaque in two coats.
Despite the coats being quite thick it dried very quickly: I painted pinky to thumb and bumped into my index finger nail while switching hands and there was no mark whatsoever.

This is Curfew in two coats without top coat:

And here's Curfew in two coats with a coat of Seche Vite:

I then painted part of each nail with two coats of matte about you and also used it to add a row of dots to the remaining shiny part of my nails. With Diamond Shine I added partial lines and some dots to the matte portion. And this is what it looks like:

How do you feel about matte and partially matte manicures?
